Our STUDIO SERIES of classes affords adults and high school students the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and understanding of theatre arts by learning new skills or improving existing ones. Fun and learning are at the forefront as students work with engaging instructors to hone talents that extend beyond the stage.

Workshop Locations
Unless otherwise noted, all of our regularly scheduled classes are held at INDIANAPOLIS CIVIC THEATRE, located at 3200 Cold Spring Rd on the campus of Marian College, just minutes from downtown on the city’s northwest side. Click on the MapQuest link for directions.
Schedule
The Studio Series runs on a 10-week seasonal schedule with programming offered year-round.
FALL SESSION: September 15, 2008 - November 22, 2008
WINTER SESSION: January 12, 2009 - March 21, 2009
SPRING SESSION: April 20, 2009 - June 27, 2009

Please refer to the individual workshop schedules below to find the dates and times for the class or classes in which you are interested. Note that some classes may have to adjust schedules due to holidays or other events. The instructor will make these adjustments with each class individually. We encourage early enrollment, as class size is limited.

Payment
Fees for classes vary depending on the length and level of the class. Payment must be made at the time of enrollment in order to secure a space in the class.
Auditing a class
A prospective student may audit any class one time for a $10 fee. As a courtesy to our staff, please notify the Education Programs Manager when you intend to attend so the instructor may be notified ahead of time. Call 317-924-6770 x256 or email education@civictheatre.org.

| BASIC ACTING |
|

Instructor: Carrie Schlatter-Schwer (fall only, other sessions TBD)
This workshop is designed specifically for the new actor who wants to build self-confidence, learn how to analyze a script, develop a character, and work in a group setting to create a piece of live theatre. Amateur performers with little or no experience are welcomed into a nurturing environment where they can begin to grow and gradually understand the preparation that ultimately translates to performing for a live audience.

| INTERMEDIATE ACTING |
|

For the occasional actor who wants to build on basic skills and develop greater control, this class is a must. Using a variety of classical and contemporary repertoire, more time will be dedicated to voice and movement training, building a portfolio and increasing awareness of self. Students will leave this class with a greater understanding of what makes an actor tick and an appreciation of the body and voice as the actor's instruments.

| ADVANCED ACTING/SCENE STUDY* |

Instructor: Constance Macy-Koharchik
This course is designed with the experienced actor in mind. Class time will be spent carefully expanding versatility and depth by dissecting scripts and characters, working with partners on dramatic scenes and monologues and exploring the tools the actor uses to accomplish compelling theatre. Students will be required to spend time outside of class rehearsing scenes.

| INDIVIDUAL VOCAL COACHING/TRAINING |

- Ages 15 & up
- $25 per half-hour, $40 per hour
Instructor: Raena Faye
For the amateur or professional vocalists who want to improve their technique and stamina while building a well-rounded portfolio, Civic Theatre offers professional vocal coaching and training. Students working with Ms. Raena Faye will benefit from her history of work in Musical Theatre and Opera. In addition to her New York voice studio, Ms. Faye has enjoyed a long list of principal roles on stages locally, nationally and abroad and has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera. While developing solid vocal technique and new-found confidence, students will naturally improve their auditions and performances.
Lessons are scheduled on an individual basis, and will take place at Ms. Faye’s home studio on the city’s north side.

| THE SINGING ACTOR/CABARET PERFORMANCE |

Always searching for just the right way to present your favorite song? This class will spend time helping students choose the best song and the best possible performance technique. Build your repertoire and have a great time sharing material with the rest of the class. The final class will serve as a performance showcase for family and friends

Due to space restrictions at our current location, please note that any dance classes will be offered as part of our Special Seminar Series. | SPECIAL SEMINAR |

Special seminars will be offered at various times throughout the year. Utilizing a master-class format and instructed by specialists, these intensive sessions will provide opportunities to study very specific areas of theatre performance. Some titles may include: stage combat, voice & movement technique for the stage, fencing and stage make-up. | AUDITION PREPARATION |

| Civic Theatre Audition Preparation |
These abbreviated and informational courses will provide the interested actor with the tools necessary to prepare to audition for a specific production being featured on Civic's mainstage. Conducted by each show's artistic staff, the courses will be offered in the weeks prior to the actual audition date and will feature detailed information and training that may help you secure a role on our mainstage!

More Bang for Your Buck
Any student enrolling in more than one Studio Series class in any one session will receive a 20% discount on the total cost of enrollment. Any current student enrolling in any class in the subsequent session will receive a 10% discount on that class.
Playing Your Part
Any volunteer actor or technician participating in a 2008-2009 Mainstage production will receive a 10% discount on any 2008-2009 Studio Series class.
Play Pass
All Studio Series students will receive one FREE ticket to the 2008-2009 Mainstage production of their choice at Indianapolis Civic Theatre. This offer does not apply to our holiday production of THE WIZARD OF OZ and tickets are restricted to Thursday evening and Saturday/Sunday matinee performances. Students must contact the Box Office at (317) 923-4597 to reserve their individual seats.
